HALOS and PDBe virtual workshop - an introduction to the Protein Data Bank and associated databases.

The workshop has a set of webinars and short videos which should be watched in advance, and then the online "live" sessions will take students through tutorial assignments that introduce different aspects of interacting with the molecular structure and bioimaging databases. Students can attend all three days, or just the one that interests them.

Registration is free and can be done here:
https://www.conferences.uni-hamburg.de/event/124/overview

You'll also find the links to the pre-recorded webinars on the registration site.

Day 1:Finding and visualising macromolecular structures at PDBe
This session provides an introduction to the PDB archive. It will cover validation (how do you know a dataset is any good) and limitations of PDB data, as well as searching for structures at PDBe and getting an overview of available structural data with the PDBe-Knowledge Base. Prerequisite for this session is a basic understanding of biology

Day 2: PDB deposition and advanced structure analysis
This sesssion will cover PDB data deposition (including tips and tricks to make deposition easier). It will also cover analysis and comparison of ligand binding sites and interactions, analysis and comparison of structural conformations and folds, and analysis of macromolecular interactions. Prerequisites for this session: Reasonable understanding of structural biology (or have attended Day 1)

Day 3: Access and submission of EMPIAR data
This session will cover • Where can I access EM Data? • How do I evaluate the quality of EM Data? • How can I visualise EM Data? • How can I deposit EM Data?
