Kim Nygård
Dynamics Working group XPCS, LINXS Fellow
Kim is a researcher at the MAX IV Laboratory and the project manager for the ForMAX beam line. He has a background in experimental physics and physical chemistry, and has a long experience in developing x-ray techniques for studies on liquids and soft matter. In recent years, his main research interest has been to understand the microscopic structure and dynamics of liquids and dense colloidal suspensions in spatial confinement and at solid-fluid interfaces, using a wide range of x-ray techniques such as small- and wide-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS/WAXS), x-ray reflectivity, grazing-incidence SAXS, grazing-incidence x-ray fluorescence (GIXF), and x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS).
Kim studied physics at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and received a PhD in 2007 on the topic of inelastic x-ray scattering studies on water and aqueous solutions. He got interested in confined liquids and fluids during postdoctoral positions at the Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland, and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility. In 2011 he became an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where he became a docent in physical chemistry in 2014. He joined the MAX IV Laboratory in 2017.
