PhD course - Analytical Methodology in Protein Formulation Development

March 16-20, 2020, Copenhagen, Denmark
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
Course director: Dr. Vito Foderà

This biennial PhD course introduces the participant to a number of advanced methods to study protein structure, with a focus on methodology used during formulation development. Recognized experts in the field introduce protein structure and stability, and discuss methods such as UV absorbance, fluorescence, circular dichroism, infrared and mass spectrometry; advanced scattering approaches and particle sizing methods will also be discussed. The course also contains group work, in which the participants are asked to identify analytical challenges and propose methods to solve a given formulation problem.

Lecturers for this course include Profs. Wim Jiskoot (Leiden), Tudor Arvinte (Basel/Geneva), Jette Kastrup (Copenhagen) and Kasper Rand (Copenhagen), as well as Associate Professors Marco van de Weert and Vito Foderà, and Mikael Bjerg Caspersen (Novo Nordisk A/S).

The course is open to PhD students and postdocs, but also to industrial participants. For more information and to enroll, please click on the following link.

A few important notes for participants who are not enrolled as PhD students at a Danish University
1)  The system will automatically place you on the waiting list, even when there are still open seats. However, we are very certain there will be sufficient seats for all who wish to participate, as we can increase the course capacity if needed

2)  Participants from any of the ULLA member universities (see link) should in principle be able to participate free of charge. Moreover, you may apply for a grant to get some costs reimbursed (see link)

3)  ULLA participants are kindly asked to contact Marco van de Weert when they enroll, so we can ensure no course fee is charged. You will still need to provide accounting information upon enrollment, otherwise your application may be ignored by the system

4)  Industrial participants may elect to not participate in the exam. In that case, you will only receive a certificate of participation, not a certificate of completion. PhD students and postdocs must take part in the exam
