Sonja Aits
Sonja Aits
Integrative Structural Biology and Imaging Working Group Member, LINXS Fellow
Sonja Aits leads the “Cell Death and Lysosomes” group (http://www.aitslab.org) at the Department of Experimental Medical Science at Lund University and has previously worked at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne and the Danish Cancer Society Research Centre. Her group studies the molecular regulation of cell death and lysosome function and the role of these processes in diseases, in particular neurodegenerative disorders, stroke, lysosomal storage disorders and cancer. A second focus of her group is to explore how artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches can be used to support various types of biomedical research, especially for image analysis, systems biology and structural biology. Besides her involvement in LINXS, she is part of the AIML@LU artificial intelligence network, several disease-related research clusters (BioCARE, StrokeSyd, NeuroLund) and EU-financed networks for bioimage analysis (NEUBIAS) and autophagy (TRANSAUTOPHAGY). She also collaborates with SciLifeLab and the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS).
