Gaetano Perchiazzi is the director of Respiratory Research at the Hedenstierna Laboratory of Uppsala University, is a medical doctor, specialist in Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine; has a PhD in Clinical Physiology on the use of artificial intelligence for extracting information from lung mechanics. Has developed methods for the topographic description of lung elasticity, strain and mechanical energy using computed tomography in animals and humans. He has been principal investigator in different scientific expeditions at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (Grenoble, France) for experiments aiming at imaging the micromechanics of lung alveoli in vivo, in conditions simulating clinical mechanical ventilation.
