Welcome Shandana Mufti, LINXS new Activities Coordinator

We are delighted to welcome Shandana Mufti, LINXS new Activities Coordinator. She will take over from Josefin Martell during her parental leave. Shandana brings with her a wealth of experience, and has already supported the organisation of several LINXS events during April and May.

Shandana Mufti is LINXS new Activities Coordinator.

In this short interview you can read about why she is passionate about event management, why she applied for the position, and how she wants to develop the role.

What attracted you to LINXS?

Max IV and ESS loom large over Lund, where I spent my first year and a half in Sweden, and LINXS is situated perfectly at their intersection. When the opportunity arose to join LINXS – and to continue using my event coordination and communications skills while learning about a completely-new-to-me field of science – I was eager to become a part of the team!

What makes you excited about event management?

I love any opportunity to bring people together, and what is event management if not crafting the perfect environments in which people can meet, mingle, and in LINXS’ case, learn? Here, I’m drawn to the emphasis on bringing junior and senior scientists together in our space, so that everyone can share their research and learn something new.

What is your background?

I have a bachelors in journalism from Northeastern University in Boston, and a masters in media and communication studies from Lund University. My feet are planted firmly in the social sciences, but I’m driven by a curiosity about new topics. I’m excited to familiarise myself with the mindboggling research being done by the brilliant scientists I get to meet each week at LINXS.

What do you hope to bring to the role?

I would love to build bridges with the wider community in Lund, so that they can also learn more about these incredible research facilities in their backyard. As a trained journalist, I always want information to be easily accessible for as many people as possible. Both words and events can make that happen, and I look forward to brainstorming new ideas for building these connections as I become more familiar with the role and with LINXS.
