We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming LINXS and MAX IV Roadmap workshop, to discuss X-ray microscopy with elemental and chemical contrast in the tender and hard X-ray regimes. The workshop is prompted by the growing research needs and interests of Swedish and international researchers in X-ray spectro-microscopy and is a science-driven response to the ongoing strategy process at MAX IV (link below).
The first years of operation at the NanoMAX and Balder beamlines have shown that a new X-ray spectral microscope with micrometer resolution, accommodating specimens up to the centimeter scale, would find broad use for research in Sweden and beyond. Therefore, a highly preliminary proposal for such an instrument has been developed. Initial discussions have revealed a wide interest from scientists in fields as diverse as geology, biology, materials science, environmental science, archaeology, conservation, and others. We welcome and encourage your input on how the envisioned instrument might benefit your research, and on what capabilities should be considered for a future beamline proposal.
The aim of the workshop is two-fold. First, to bring together a community of researchers from Swedish and international universities and institutes, industry and synchrotrons to develop and discuss the needs and science case for the proposed beamline. Secondly, to create a platform for submitting a formal Expression of Interest, due in November as part of the ongoing MAX IV science-driven and open Roadmap process, and establishing how such an initiative should be organized.
