LINXS Partner Event - Welcome to MAX IV Strategy and Roadmap workshops!

MaxStrategy.PIC.png

MAX IV is developing a science-driven Strategy and Roadmap with the community and stakeholders to guide development of the laboratory through 2030. The goal of the Strategy is to set a course for producing high-impact science and ensuring MAX IV stays at the forefront as a Swedish national user facility through the next decade. The Roadmap will detail a timeline for potential new and upgraded major instruments and infrastructure at MAX IV.

More information about the process and upcoming workshops can be found at maxiv.se/strategy

Strategy and Roadmap Workshops

The workshops are community-driven initiatives to gather input for the Strategy and Roadmap. MAX IV and/or our partner institute, LINXS, can support your workshop by advertising it on the Workshop page so that those interested in contributing can find it and engage. If needed, we also assist with Zoom calls and registration. We support arranging as many workshops as possible before the User Meeting 2021, 25–27 October, which is an opportunity to discuss further and consolidate ideas.

On the Workshop page, you can download a short presentation for public use about the current status quo on the process for the Strategy and Roadmap to use at the workshop.

If you have questions or comments, please get in touch with strategy@maxiv.se

Expressions of Interest

Suggestions for items to be included in the Roadmap should be submitted as Expressions of Interest and will go through an evaluation process. Feedback on the process, which is not finalised, is greatly appreciated.

Read more about the process and download the current draft template for an Expression of Interest on the Roadmap call page.

Upcoming workshops

August 24th, 09:00 – 12:00 CET, 2021 – Workshop on a future hard X-ray operando diffraction beamline – OPERA
The aim of the workshop is to introduce OPERA, a proposed future beamline optimized for operando powder/surface diffraction using hard X-rays, to collect input from the Swedish research community regarding science cases which can be addressed using such a beamline, and to establish a working group which will take the main responsibility for submitting a formal Expression of Interest. Please note that this is the first of two workshops, and a separate workshop dedicated to industrial needs and opportunities will be held in September. Further information will be announced in August, but please contact Magnus Colliander (Chalmers) if you have any questions.

26 August, 13:00 – 17:00 CET, 2021 – Workshop on a Future µ-Spectro-microscopy Beamline
We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming LINXS and MAX IV Roadmap workshop to discuss X-ray microscopy with elemental and chemical contrast in the tender and hard X-ray regimes. The aim of the workshop is two-fold. First, to bring together a community of researchers from Swedish and international universities and institutes, industry and synchrotrons to develop and discuss the needs and science case for the proposed beamline. Secondly, to create a platform for submitting a formal Expression of Interest, due in November as part of the ongoing MAX IV science-driven and open Roadmap process, and establishing how such an initiative should be organized.

1 September, 09:00 – 12:15 CET, 2021 – Tackling Environmental Challenges
A virtual half-day workshop to address the proposed ”Transformative Science” section of the Strategy document with the same title. We invite everyone who is interested in contributing to participate in the workshop. The meeting aims to collect contributions from various stakeholders, for example, representatives of Swedish universities, research institutions, international research communities, industry, as well as from MAX IV.

3 September, 13:00 – 16:15 CET, 2021 – Workshop for IR spectromicroscopy beamline MIRARI
The aim of the workshop and webinar series (hosted by LINXS) is to bring together a community of researchers from Swedish & international universities and institutes, industry and synchrotrons to develop and discuss IR methods and science. As a second goal, we want to identify interest, scope and science cases for a future IR beamline at MAX IV.

25–27 October 2021 – The 33rd MAX IV User Meeting
Many activities at the User Meeting are expected to relate to the Strategy and Roadmap work. It is possible to submit suggestions for contributions related to the MAX IV strategy, e.g. under the category “Developments and forward-looking discussion”, see abstract submission for more information. If you are unsure about how to engage, contact the organisers or give them a call (Ana Labrador +46 766 32 33 28).
