Words from the Director Trevor Forsyth

LINXS is very pleased to announce that it will move into new purpose-designed premises in The Loop building at Science Village (SV) at Brunnshög, Lund, in early 2025. LINXS will be amongst the first to arrive at Science Village and the move will mark a significant development for operations. Its new location will place it adjacent to ESS and MAX IV at a time when a wide range of academic centres, institutes, and companies are planning their moves onto this exciting piece of scientific real estate. The move to Science Village will be accompanied by an inaugural event in Midsummer week 2025 – details will be announced on the website.

On our website there are many articles and interviews from our ongoing theme activities, and of course the annual Science Day which this year focused on the recently completed New Materials Theme. You will also find an interview with Dr. Jitendra Mata who was a LINXS guest researcher with the Northern Lights on Food theme during the month of May.

There has been a great deal of activity relating to the Young Researchers’ Initiatives (YRIs) - led and organised by the young researchers themselves, and helping to prepare the ground for the next generation of principal investigators. In connection with young researchers, it is also pleasing to see the imminent arrival of the second AMBER postdoctoral call, which opens on 14th of June. Around 15 ambitious postdoctoral appointees are being sought to work on biological imaging projects ranging from molecular, through cellular, to tissue, organ and organism levels of organisation, involving a number of European research and higher education institutes. Please spread the word!

We are delighted to formally introduce Shandana Mufti, our new activities coordinator who is taking over from Josefin Martell during her parental leave. Shandana has already been actively involved in some very successful events including an excellent workshop on 3D biomedical imaging with synchrotron radiation (part of the IPDD theme), the Chemistry of Life Young Researcher’s Symposium, and the Swedish Neutron Week.

We would like to highlight a few upcoming LINXS events in the runup to the summer period: on the 10th of June there will be a guest seminar by Richard Hopkinson from the University of Leicester, UK; Richard is visiting as part of the Chemistry of Life Theme. On the 13th of June there will be a webinar from Martgarita Kruteva (FZ Jülich) as part of the Antibodies in Solution working group of IPDD. The Coherence 2024 conference starts on the 16th of June. Then on the 18th of June, we have our LINXS Digital Town Hall meeting, where our new Themes will be announced. The following day, LINXS will host its Midsummer open house. We look forward to seeing you all!
