Workshop: The role of certain metals in organic matter mobilization and decomposition – Environment and Climate theme

Sign up for a workshop on the role of certain metals in organic matter mobilization and decomposition, organised by the ECL theme. All participants are welcome to bring a poster of their research.

When: 25 April, 2024, whole day incl tour at MAX IV!

Where: at LINXS (Scheelevägen 19, Lund), workshop room on the 5th floor, with digital participation possibility. Digital participants will receive a Zoom-link the day before the event.

Registration information: Please register latest 19/4 to join the tour at MAX IV.

Description

The hybrid workshop will focus on the use of X-ray and neutron techniques to understand metal speciation particularly those metals involved in soil microbial decomposition of organic matter. The first part of the workshop will include an overview of X-rays and neutrons by experts from MAX IV and ESS, and as part of this, demonstration of data analysis as well as discussions about sample preparation and data analysis. The second part of the workshop will include examples of the use of selected techniques in understanding the role of certain metals (e.g. Fe) in organic matter decomposition and mobilization followed by discussion. The workshop is open to both inexperienced and experienced users aiming to encourage the use of X-rays and neutrons in environmental sciences and to foster collaborations.

Invited speakers

Martin Obst, University of Beyreuth

Prachi Joshi, University of Tuebingen

Luis Carlo Colocho Hurtarte, Diamond Light Source

We have been made aware of a concerning issue regarding phishing emails from “travel agencies” targeting speakers scheduled for our LINXS events. If you are in any doubt about the legitimacy of an email regarding travel arrangements, please contact the organisers! Please note that LINXS will never request speakers to pay invoices for later reimbursement (as the phishing emails might suggest).

During our events we sometimes take photographs and short film clips to profile our activities. Please let us know if you don’t want to be in any photos/films before we start the event. Some webinars are recorded to be used for educational purposes in the LINXS website.
