MENTOR-MENTEE PROGRAMME WITH THE ECL THEME
About
With the mentor-mentee programme, the ECL Theme aims to create connections between inexperienced users (mentees) with researchers who have advanced knowledge on synchrotron-based X-ray and neutron techniques (mentors).
Why a mentor-mentee program?
To better understand complex environmental processes and access information at different spatial and temporal scales, an improved incorporation of techniques at synchrotron facilities and neutron sources into this field of research is needed.
While there is a strong interest in the researcher community, there is a substantial gap between the environmental scientists/geologists/biologists and the physicists and chemists at those facilities. The reason for this gap is frequently the lack of knowledge of how the available techniques can be used and what information can be obtained. Furthermore, competence needs to be built regarding sample preparation and data analysis.
How does the mentor-mentee program work?
In this short-term mentorship programme, the mentees are expected to accompany their mentor during data collection at a beamline and the mentors in return are expected to involve the mentees in data collection and possibly in data analysis routines. The benefits are that the mentor will obtain an extra pair of hands for their experiment at a beamline, while the mentees will gain experience at X-ray and neutron techniques, while at the same both mentor and mentees will benefit from expanding their network of future collaborators.
How to apply
Indicate your interest in becoming a mentor or mentee by submitting the form below. Please include a brief description of your research area for the most efficient ‘match-making’. This information will be publically available under the Mentor-Mentee programme website under ECL Theme at LINXS. The mentors can then contact the mentees or the mentees can reach out to the mentors via contacts provided by LINXS.

Mentor-Mentee form
Below you can indicate your interest in becoming a mentor or a mentee within the program. After submitting, you will be contacted by one of the organisers to discuss practicalities.
GDPR statement
By submitting your details in this form, you give your permission to LINXS, according to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), to register your name and e-mail address to be used for the sole purpose of enabling ECL organisers to contact potential mentors and mentees within the program. You can request to have the information removed at any time.
